Taiwan studying yeah studying Chinese. what make you want to learn Mandarin is. it for work not really we like in the. Asian studies so I had to learn a new L. GRE so I I just Chinese so how long have. you been here in Taiwan one day two days.

South Africa I've been to India I've. been sted in Spain so a couple of. countries.

and now lovely Taiwan Eva where are you. from France what brought you here in. have you been here in Taiwan one day you. just arrived yester yesterday yeah so. what brought you here in Taiwan for. tourist how long are you staying 10 days. so you still have n more days to explore. yeah I had beef. noodles on the pl I don't know if that. counts but it was really good which. airline did you take China airine okay. then that yeah that counts any plant. here that you want to any place that you. want to visit the night market for sure. sure you should definitely try that but.

my boss says I'm not allowed to eat too. much cuz she doesn't want me to get sick. oh you won't you won't you need to calm. down those are playing yeah you sure. after I do the work I think then I can. eat it then she's okay with me e all. right that's interesting that's our yeah. I tried the the breakfast restaurants. uhhuh it's something like a crap oh like. omelet right yeah it's called uhing yes. ding I feel like that's one of for.

favorite every time when I ask them. about their favorite breakfast they'll. always tell me have you tried that one. no you should you should tryan so you. can ask them to make it um vegetarian. okay I want to try bubble tea oh bubble. tea.

how about foodwise for you I really like.

the beef noodle there's one in Singapore. taiwan's beef noodle but it's much. different here it's better is there type. of food that you don't like probably all. vegetable things related I'm glad you. didn't say stinky tofu well stinky tofu. this Mells it's probably the bad one I. don't really like it have you. tried actually what I really appreciate. here in taipe also in in total Taiwan is. the variety now you can get everything.

yeah from a siton cantones you want to. have a pizza get a pizza and obviously. classical tanese food so I actually. tried almost everything now up to even. duck tongue which was a little bit. interesting to me but um I really tried. it because if you if you don't try it. you can't judge it yeah but it's it's. interesting it's something different. since that you mentioned it have you. ever tried this restaurant I actually. know the shf it's called. Dura is that how you pronounce it Lion. in German to be very honest I haven't. been in any restaurants here so far.

really then you you must try this one. because they have really good pork. knuckle they have really good German. sausages and also of course German beer. all right that sounds not too bad huh it. is really good you should definitely go. try it sometimes you should give me the. address of it so that I can try it once. yeah okay I I actually have a sudden. idea how about let's go right now right. now yes I know it sounds crazy lung is. on me but um but let me justest he come.

yes please you have to try so have you. tried any Taiwanese food yet uh not yet. you should is there anything on your. list that you want to try I don't know. everything I don't know oh I just want. to discover the dishes I would recommend. night night market yeah cuz there are a. lot of local food there I would say beef. noodles is a must and bubble tea I don't. know you like sweet but I think it's a. stereotype but just because you're a. fishan so I just assume that you love. sweet it's a stereotype but I'm here for. that too.

in general like it's much cleaner here. it seems much more organized it seems. much more fast-paced it seems that. everything's like quite connected like. La everything's very spread out far. apart and we drive cars everywhere but. it seems like you can take the metro. come in and come out and just like go to. your favorite restaurant and there seems. to be a lot of common places where. people can sit around and hang out with. their friends right have you tried the. Metro System yeah we do have Metro but.

it's scary um and it's quite dirty um. and it's not that safe from what I've. experienced so far we've been on the. Metro like three four times it's very. clean and people respect each other's. space and I like that you have to stand. to the side and wait for everyone to. come off and then come back in so I feel. like everyone's just more respectful of. each other's space and has manners just. a city is really quiet uhuh really. really although there are many people. but really quiet.

so many trees like it's a city in a. forest. uh yeah okay let's go this is so high. tech it's fancy H it is and you have to. imagine this golf now turns 50 this year. oh M so 50 is anniversary do you drive. here in Taiwan yeah yeah I'm driving. here how do you think driving is. different in Taiwan and in other.

countries first of all I think that. Taiwanese people are super disciplined. you think so with all the scooters. flying on the streets and freig you out. yeah but I'm talking about the cars when. they drive no so you you hardly see um. aggressive drivers yeah so um the only. thing which is a little bit things you. have to get used to is type is very. narrow uhhuh yeah it is true and you. have all these massive scooters now I. always call them like. bees yes they are and you don't think.

they drive aggressively no h it's it's a. really okay is that because you've been. to um South Africa and India yeah when I. was there I had a driver and I was. really literally sometimes I was only. sitting and watching that it was just. amazing isn't it just like a show yeah. you would just see a crossing and all. the cars would just come into the middle. and then somehow they Muggles through no. way it was really amazing how about in. South Africa cuz I've heard people.

telling me it's kind of not safe is not. safe yeah you have to be um Vigilant so. that means you have to constantly looks. 360 always um so for instance the. recommendation at night mhm is that you. don't stop at red lights you um watch. and then you go over cuz it's it's it. can be dangerous the nature the nature. in the city is um quite uh remarkable. and the the wi of the of the city too.

it's uh it's very big.

to be quite honest people seem much more. open than how they would be perceived. internationally does that makes sense I. feel like people have this sort of. perception that at least I don't know in. Taiwan at least that everyone is kind of. shy I noticed some people are shy but. I've seen more people smile and how are. you and thank you and try to talk. instead of like backing away in a corner. so I'm surprised by that and I think. that stereotype is not true yeah thank. you is it different from what you. thought it would be here in Taiwan um to.

be quite honest I have a few Taiwanese. friends just throughout the years. they've always been quite open so I. wasn't that shocked but I realized how. wrong that perception was that coming to. Asia like everyone's quiet and they. won't talk to you like that hasn't been. my experience so far people don't look. at each other in the eyes when you talk. to them they seem a bit shy or it's not. culturally the same they look away I was. also told uh by my neighbor in the plane.

not to look at people in the. eyes where is that person from taian oh. really I w't say that cuz that's not. what my parents taught me since I was. kid they always tell me look people in. the eyes when you talk to them it is. really rude if you don't look in. people's eyes so I think I don't know. that's not what I've. learned for.

how about you do people recognize you as. Taiwanese so they try to speak Mandarin. to you some lady just asked me direction. in Chinese. but and he speak Chinese so that's a bit. funny funny experience right right it's. really interesting because people would. thought you were the one.

to speak to you but you cannot so they. have to turn to you to speak. M if you ask in Indian are the parts. coming on time mhm what say no problem. yes there are so they can you tell their. yes and no you can say it in The. Swinging of the head if it's pretty slow. you know there's something not right. yeah in Taiwan they would not give you. an answer they look at you Taiwan is. very distanced do you feel like. Taiwanese are more indirect when it. comes to answers but the culture is not. to lose the face you will not offend.

someone it's very friendly German. culture is the opposite if you meet met. a German MH you would sometimes think. they are angry because first of all the. language is tough and then we are very. direct do you think your your um workers. where your staff feel that way towards. you feel that you're always. angry I hope not yeah so I consider. myself not being a little bit culturally. um aware maybe later I can visit your. office and ask them I well I think. people here are more open than where I'm.

from because we know Paris is um is SE. like with bad people and um bad educated. but it's just here it's different I've. not been here for too long but I can see. differences and I love it very kind very. kind very Smiley first day but we are. very happy to Bey I think it's like good. good energy yeah good mood you People. minding I think yes more than other PE. other country in. Asia because I used to study English. first then German then Russian then. Korean you think Russian a little bit oh. okay okay okay okay not really also Tha. and now Chinese what makes you want to. learn Tai because my father is Tha. look are you look no.

my I studied there for a university I. also just speak a little bit how about. you is this your first foreign language. that you learned no it's like like Julie. so I learned German and English and. Chinese is it also because of your. interest that you're interested in the. culture I'm studying history and it's. linked to the topic I want to study what. makes you want to learn Mandarin I did a. degree in linguistics and then we could. pick some languages to to study and at.

my University the only non-european. language was Mandarin and I wanted to do. something more challenging so I went for. Mandarin Chinese how long have youve. been learning five years wow.

how about you how many languages do you. speak well I speak Malai I speak English. and a bit of Indonesian Malai and. Indonesian it's almost the same so I. will count it as one how many languages. do you speak French. English like. Cambodian and Spanish and how about you. me too the same that's really cool did. you learn all these languages back in. the school not Cambodian but yeah in.

school we learn like English Spanish did. you learn it within two years yeah. that's really impressive so does that. mean that you can communicate fluently. not very fluently but I can we can. understand we can talk about our life. what we do in the Life yes about. everything but not very friend.

emotional damn it.

I came from Singapore so probably the. fruit I ate a lot of Malai dishes here I. think most of people doesn't really like. spicy food I mean it's like super red. but I think it's supposed to be more. spicy oh that's a it's a tough question. mhm are the only downside for me here in. Taiwan is unfortunately I don't speak. any mandarinia in the countries I've. been so far the majority spoke English.

or another language which I speak. Mandarin is obviously not in my. portfolio yet so that is that's a little. bit and downside perhaps if you I'm. thinking about what I don't like um the. school system is tough now yeah so I I. have to say my kids have to work very. very hard yeah so I totally feel you. that's why later I escaped they've been. in American institutions their whole. life in different countries now and it's. the first time that I see them on. weekends now and for hours yeah and they. normally don't do this yeah so but this. really is a different setup what I.

appreciate is the safety could just let. our kids go out take the MRT drive to. some shopping places you don't have to. worry it also has a lot of beautiful. areas I'm a education assistant in a. French School in pen how long have you. been there two years so what do you help. the children mostly education education. like English lesson and also activities. yes in the south of Cambodia and what. made you this de to start this. organization it's because I'm half.

Cambodian so it was like a dream for me. to come back to Cambodia but where did. you grow up friends ah okay I get it. well that's really kindhearted of you. I've been actually now on the road for. 14 years yeah traveling around countries. I do like it because it Con constantly. forces me to reinvent myself because. every country is so different right and. when you work on yourself flexibility it. obviously keeps you fresh yeah and I. always say to my wife we can still sit.

with 70 in front of the fireplace and. then we have at least something to talk. about about all our nice places we live. them how about your kids because they'll. have to change school after school in. different countries and they'll have to. make new friends that's a very good. question what I believe is if the family. is is is strong then you can so can can. get this really uh smoo how do you work. on it to make the family to have a. strong relationship you spend the time. you have to to participate obviously in.

some of the events you have to go travel. together when we um went to some places. it was always a family decision so my. kids for instance uh were doing a. PowerPoint pres presentation on Taiwan. why Taiwan is the right one so they they. went to the internet they looked at the. strengths so for instance here to taian. my wife didn't want to my kids they said. but mommy this is interesting we never. been in Southeast Asia let's do that. yeah for.
